Southeastern Lighting Solutions Make It A Memorable Return In St Cloud

Monday May 22, 2017 | Category: Boat Race

After a year out, the Southeastern Lighting Solutions team produced a strong performance on East Lake Tohopekaliga, Kissimmee to take first blood in the championship title race.

The crew of Walt Cox and Jamie Canter, who raced as part of the Halloween Megastore team in 2016, thrived as others faded to secure victory in the last race to leapfrog reigning champions Team Barbados after controversy caused a major switch up in the eventual standings.

Team Barbados led the weekend standings heading into race three but struck the buoy at turn three deflating it and causing several teams to miss the turning on the following lap. This saw race leaders Visit Jacksonville receive a one-minute penalty, as well as Frank and Al’s Pizza, GEICO and Team Barbados.

This handed Southeastern Lighting Solutions the victory and also propelled fellow newcomers Visit St Petersburg/Clearwater up into second for experienced racers Richie Webster and Trent Gaulin.

James Norvill and Charlie Parsons-Young of Team Barbados, who have won the title three years running, took the final spot on the podium despite their penalty, just three points ahead of last year’s championship rivals GEICO.

It was a disappointing day for former GEICO driver Craig Wilson and his sister Kate as the new Spectre P1 Panther could only complete one full race.

It’s a quick turnaround for the eight teams as the championship now heads to Jacksonville on June 3.
